Major Update 0.1.2: New souls, phobias, abilities, and items!


Some pretty significant additions have been made to the Hollow Halls rulebook! This update has been focused on adding some new player facing and general (read: content used by game masters and other players) content. The next update of Hollow Halls will be focused on adding more toys for the GM.


Major Changes & Additions

  • The color red is now used for chapter headers (I want thoughts on this, as I've been constantly debating the decision with myself).
  • I've added four new souls, and four new phobias to go along side them: Chaotic (Heliophobia), Influenced (Hemophobia), Unrelenting (Claustrophobia), and Solitary (Phobophobia).
    • These were added, in large part, because I realized that most of the souls that existed prior didn't work very well when applied to Stalker Enemies. That being said, they should still be completely viable (and hopefully fun) player options as well.
  • Each Calling has been given a new ability
    • The Soldier has received Shield Bash, which allows you to Tackle with a shield! Brilliant, I know.
    • The Survivor has received Make Do, which allows you to continue using sundered weapons in combat.
    • The Mercenary has received Not A Drop, which allows you to conserve inventory space with multiple-use deployable items.
    • The Wyrd has received Quell The Ink, which allows them to trade binding attunement for Focus. 
      • This was a necessary addition for the Wyrd. They really needed something to help them interface with bindings.
    • The Priest has received Be Not Afraid, which . . . well, it kinda says it on the tin
  • The Soldier Calling has also had its starting equipment substantially altered. It now receives Armor instead of a main weapon.
    • This was done to increase the soldier's freedom in choosing a main weapon, something that was brought up as a problem near the end of playtesting
  • 2 new Grimoires and 2 new Parables have been added!
    • The Grimoire of Crushing is an anti-armor spell, and a pretty effective one at that
    • The Grimoire of Sundering is an offensive control spell that disables items.
    • The Parable of Chains is a damaging control spell that eats away at enemy Evasion.
    • The Parable of Silver Thorns is a defensive spell that causes attacking enemies to take damage.
  • The Magic Items chapter has been added! This chapter contains rules for creating and identifying magic items, as well as some sample items. This includes:
    • 4 minor abilities, here referred to as Minor Arcana.
    • 22 major abilities, here referred to as Major Arcana.
    • 4  Sample Magic Items
  • An appendix of optional rules has been added. This appendix will be updated with additional optional rules as further testing occurs.

Minor Changes

  • A LOT of fixed formatting
    • The Table of Contents is now entirely accurate (sorry about that).
    • The  rules text on all of the Bindings now better conforms to my internal style guide (which is utter nonsense, but still existent).
    • Multiple instances of keywords not being bolded have been fixed
  • All instances of the term "piercing damage" have been replaced with the legally distinct "pierce damage," just as god intended.
  • Fixed a minor issue where you could Skulk or Dash and just hold the Bonus / Penalty Die for eternity.
