Footfall v0.2.0 Changelog: New Chapters & Powers

My favorite thing about Footfall is the continual process of growth. I learn something new every single time I do any amount of work on this game. Sometimes it’s small and seemingly random, like the intricacies of gravity and why emulating it exactly tends to be forgone in both tabletop and videogames. Sometimes it’s incredibly impactful and useful, such as how to optimize Affinity Publisher. This time I learned a lot about level design.

I'm sorry for being gone for so long. I would like to thank everyone who has been bearing with me through this as I present you with Footfall 0e v0.2.0, the WATCHMAN UPDATE! Here are the changes and additions you can expect to find in the new version.

New Content:

  • The Gift of Bonds has been added. A set of powers that allows you to control gravity. Based on
  • Part 3: The Watchman has been added. It's always been my personal philosophy that guidelines for making stuff are more helpful for the GMing process than just providing unholy amounts of stuff to use, and that is on display here. There's also an additional planned 12th chapter which is currently in the works
    • Chapter 9: Missions, which teaches you how to create missions.
      • This includes tables for randomizing loot based upon environment.
    • Chapter 10: Enemies, which teaches you how to make enemies.
    • Chapter 11: Curios and Marvels, which teaches you how to make magic & science items.

Fixes and Changes:

  • EVEN MORE REFORMATTING!
  • Every instance of "See Chapter X" in the rules text now has a hyperlink to the chapter.
    • Every incorrect instance of "See Chapter X" has been corrected (whoops)
  • The rules for using Adrenaline to take Actions on another creature's turn now includes: "Generally speaking, once a roll has been made, that action may no longer be interrupted in this way."
  • The Quick Reference rules for Cover are now correct (whoops!)
  • The Table of Contents has had its final broken hyperlinks caught and fixed. A new system for generating hyperlinks has been implemented to prevent further problems regarding the Table of Contents.
    • In addition, the Table of Contents has been updated to reflect the inclusion of all new sections.
  • The Creature & Object Size section of Chapter 2 has been changed to include non-building structures such as vehicles and automatons.
  • Gifts and Powers
    • The number of Gifts in "The Watchman's Gifts" section has been corrected. In addition, all Gifts are now listed on a numbered table that can be rolled on to randomly select Gifts at Character Creation.
    • Every instance of "When you use . . ." in the Addendum text has been replaced with "When you activate . . ."
    • The Gift of Reaching power Rivet Line now allows you to pendulum swing in any direction while in the air, as opposed to just forward or up.
    • The Gift of Reaching power Rivet Line now includes: "This extension can be retracted or disengaged for 0 Action Points, allowing you to pull yourself to the target. You may pull targets that are the same size or smaller than you to you instead." and "The Entropy generated by this power cannot be cleared until you disengage the extension."
    • The Gift of Reaching power Binding Thing now includes: "For 0 Action points, this extension may attach its ends to up to 2 surfaces, free-standing objects, or creatures." and "You may end this effect at any time, regaining your arm." and "This effect can be forcibly ended by dealing damage equal to or greater than your DT to the extension with one Attack."
    • The Gift of Reaching power Shot Put now includes: "This attack deals an additional 1d4 damage."
    • The Gift of Doors power Bridged Barrier now includes: "Gravity does not affect creatures or objects through portals."
    • The Gift of Roads power Perpetual Drift now includes: "Any bonuses to the number of strides one may move when performing a Movement action also apply to Accelerating, Braking, and Turning while Drifting."
  • The Truncheon now appears on the Melee Implements reference table (Double whoops!)
    • The Truncheon's text has been corrected to account for the name change of Grapples to Grabs, as well as the existence of other kinds of restraints (e.g. Rope).
  • The Blade ammunition type now appears on the Ammunition reference table (TRIPLE WHOOPS!)
    • The Catch blade now reads: "In addition, on a hit, this blade robs a target of 1 item on their person. The wielder may choose not to deal damage with this attack to roll a stealth check instead of generating Notice."
    • The Shock Blade now decreases the target's Dodge by -2.
  • The Light Sources table entry for the Powder Lamp is now accurate.
  • “Unarmed” is now properly defined under the Melee attack.
    • Instances of “unarmed” have been added throughout the rules where appropriate.
  • The Grab Attack action has been edited and rebalanced.
    • The text now includes: "If a restrained creature Grabs another, all Momentum based movement of the restrained creatures occur on the Turn of the first restraining creature."
    • Escaping a Grab now has a flat Difficulty rather than requiring a contested Check.
      • As a result of this change, the Hound Beast Blood token now adds +2 to the Difficulty of checks made to escape a Grab.
  • The Cover rules have been simplified slightly. Full Cover no longer provides a flat penalty to Attack Checks, instead giving 2 Disadvantage.
  • A sidebar on Train & Ship ticket prices has been added to the end of Chapter 7: Machines.
  • A sidebar on What Happens When A Train Car Is Disconnected has been added to the end of Chapter 7: Machines.
    • This sidebar includes rules for Train Brakes. They are currently in this spot because they didn't fit anywhere else (literally. I'm still trying to find the page space)
  • The Study Downtime action now includes the text, "None of your questions may be, 'What is the Curious/Marvelous Trait?' or 'What is the full text of the Curious/Marvelous Trait?'"
  • The Tinker Downtime action now opens as follows: "Invent something new or choose an existing object or vehicle that isn’t a Blood token, Marvel, or Curio."
  • A note on Chain Mobility has been added to the Enemies chapter.
  • The Beast background has been reworked. 2 new Boons have been added as part of this.
  • The Influenced background has been slightly reworked. A new Boon has been added as part of this.
  • A sidebar on Inhuman Members of The Troupe has been added to the Enemies chapter.

Next Steps:

  • Firstly, I plan on adding a chapter which details the setting of Tarsadow and expands upon it. This will include a number of Factions which will each have their own rollable loot tables.
  • Secondly, I plan to finally get Footfall's first adventure, Haghorse Run, released. All that's left now is to commission some art for the NPCs!
  • Thirdly, I plan to fill in any art gaps in the book—once I have the money. To support this endeavor, v0.2.0's cost is being increased to $10. Anybody who has downloaded the book in the past will continue to have free access to all future updates.

Thank you again to everybody who has shown me support by downloading, reading, playing, and talking about my games.
